Helen Klebesadel

Artist Bio

Helen Klebesadel (MFA) is a Madison-based visual artist and educator best known for her environmental and surreal watercolors that push the traditional boundaries of scale, content, and technique. Klebesadel has exhibited her watercolors nationally and internationally, including through the U.S. Arts in the Embassies Program. The Bergstrom-Mahler Museum presented her first solo museum exhibition in 1994. Her 35+ year academic career in art and women’s and gender studies included earning tenure at Lawrence University, and academic appointments at UW System and UW-Madison, (including serving as the Director of the Wisconsin Regional Art Program WRAP). . Klebesadel’s paintings are represented in public and private art collections. In 2018 she retired to full-time art making, while continuing to share her passion for art through workshops and art mentoring. Helen was a past national president of the Women’s Caucus for Art and served on the Wisconsin Arts Board.
