ICE MELT, Take What You Need
 
ICE MELT began as an observation of ice slowly dissolving, then, as the work evolved, light emerged as catalyst. Following the natural movement of melting ice and radiating beams, a larger form revealed itself, a sphere that can be read simultaneously as planet, body, and system.
 
The melting represents both the effects of global warming and the actions of political agitators. The pool of red below signifies the human and environmental cost: the lives of people, creatures, and ecosystems increasingly harmed by destruction, and the expansion of violent, militarized systems built on control and domination.
 
This piece was an act of processing grief and fear, a recognition that ecological collapse and human violence are not separate crises, but interconnected forces shaping the present, a witness to the harm that is unfolding in the present.
 
Below the red pool is an attempt to balance the heavy weight of grief, with a gesture of hope. Resembling a familiar community poster, reminiscent of old tear-off flyers found on street poles and bulletin boards, the message reads Take What You Need, the tear-off tabs offer simple forms of care: Hope. Peace. Courage. Justice. Truth. Love. An acknowledgment of collective exhaustion while affirming solidarity, recognizing that, in moments of widespread harm, people reach for care, connection, and one another, holding onto hope as the very act of resistance itself.
