1. Purpose & Scope

Confluence Community exists to foster connection, collaboration, learning, and mutual support across art, nature, and community-centered work.

Membership is an invitation to participate in a living, evolving community, not a transactional service, promotional platform, or guarantee of outcomes.

By joining Confluence Community, members agree to engage in good faith, respect community values, and understand that this space prioritizes care, reciprocity, and collective growth over speed, metrics, or individual gain.

These Terms & Conditions apply to:

  • Individual members

  • Organizational members

  • Partners, collaborators, and contributors

  • Chamber of Commerce–affiliated members

2. Nature of Membership

Membership in Confluence Community:

  • Is participatory, not passive

  • Is relationship-based, not transactional

  • Does not guarantee visibility, sales, funding, or promotion

  • Does not function as an agency, marketing firm, or paid service provider

While we offer opportunities for sharing work, collaboration, and exposure, these opportunities are contextual, curated, and capacity-based, not entitlements.

3. Membership Tiers & Participation

Membership tiers reflect levels of engagement and support, not status or hierarchy.

All members:

  • Are encouraged to participate respectfully in community spaces

  • May submit events, updates, artwork, or news for consideration

  • Understand that submissions are reviewed based on alignment, timing, and capacity

Higher-tier memberships may include:

  • Deeper collaboration

  • Leadership or advisory opportunities

  • Priority consideration for programs

However, no membership tier guarantees inclusion in specific exhibitions, campaigns, or features.

4. Community Values & Conduct

Members agree to uphold the following principles:

  • Mutual respect and care

  • Accountability for personal behavior and impact

  • Willingness to listen, learn, and adapt

  • Respect for boundaries, consent, and capacity

  • Commitment to inclusive, non-discriminatory practices

Prohibited Conduct Includes:

  • Harassment, discrimination, or hate speech

  • Exploitation of community relationships for personal gain

  • Expecting unpaid labor, emotional labor, or services

  • Repeated boundary violations

  • Misrepresentation of Confluence Community or its members

  • Treating the community as a transactional service

  • Disengaging from commitments or collaborations without communication, particularly when others are directly impacted

Confluence Community reserves the right to pause, limit, or revoke membership if conduct harms the community or violates these values.

5. Inclusivity & Identity Disclosures

Members may optionally self-identify as:

  • LGBTQIA+

  • Woman-owned

  • Minority-owned

  • Disability-owned

  • Neurodivergent-led

  • Indigenous-led

  • Veteran-owned

  • Cooperative or collective-led

This information is:

  • Voluntary

  • Used for inclusion, understanding, and advocacy

  • Never required for participation

  • Never used to rank, gatekeep, or exclude

Members are responsible for the accuracy of their self-identification.

6. Accessibility & Accommodation

Confluence Community is committed to accessibility and inclusion.

Members may:

  • Request reasonable accommodations

  • Communicate access needs at any time

  • Provide feedback on barriers they encounter

We acknowledge that accessibility is an ongoing learning process and welcome constructive input as part of shared community care.

7. Submissions, Content & Intellectual Property

Members retain full ownership of their work.

By submitting content (art, writing, event details, etc.), members grant Confluence Community:

  • A non-exclusive license to share submitted materials

  • Permission to use content for community storytelling, promotion, or documentation

  • Credit wherever content is shared

Confluence Community will not sell, license, or exploit member work without explicit permission.

8. Curation & Editorial Discretion

All programming, exhibitions, features, and publications are curated.

Decisions are based on:

  • Alignment with community values

  • Timing and capacity

  • Balance across disciplines and voices

  • Accessibility and care considerations

Editorial discretion is exercised to protect the health, integrity, and sustainability of the community.

9. Cooperative & Reciprocal Participation

Confluence Community operates on a cooperative ethos.

Members are encouraged to:

  • Support other members

  • Share knowledge or resources when able

  • Participate in discussions and initiatives

  • Offer feedback constructively

Membership is not a one-way exchange. The strength of the community depends on shared participation and mutual care, within each member’s capacity.

10. Communication, Accountability & Healthy Participation

Open Communication

Members are expected to communicate openly and respectfully when participating in programs, collaborations, or shared initiatives.

If a member experiences:

  • Misalignment

  • Dissatisfaction

  • Capacity changes

  • Accessibility needs

  • A desire to step back

We ask that they communicate this directly with the Confluence Community team whenever possible.

Stepping Back or Leaving

We recognize that capacity changes, life happens, and needs evolve. Members may step back or leave at any time.

When possible, we ask members to communicate changes in participation so expectations can be adjusted respectfully and community relationships can be closed with care.

Healthy Conflict Resolution

Disagreements and misunderstandings are a natural part of community-building.

Members agree to:

  • Raise concerns directly when possible

  • Participate in constructive dialogue

  • Approach conflict with curiosity, accountability, and respect

This does not require remaining in spaces that feel unsafe, it asks for communication when circumstances allow.

Ghosting & Disengagement

Non-responsiveness, disappearance during active collaborations, or abandonment of agreed-upon participation without communication (“ghosting”) may result in:

  • Removal from specific projects or programs

  • Loss of access to certain collaborative opportunities

  • Review of membership status if patterns persist

Members are not penalized for needing to step back. Communication is the key expectation, not constant availability.

11. Financial Terms & Fees

  • Membership fees support operations, programming, accessibility efforts, and platform maintenance

  • Fees are not payment for guaranteed services or outcomes

  • Memberships are non-refundable, except at Confluence Community’s discretion

  • Financial hardship requests may be considered case by case

12. Suspension & Termination

Confluence Community reserves the right to:

  • Suspend or terminate memberships

  • Remove access to community spaces

  • Decline future participation

This may occur if:

  • Community values are violated

  • Behavior causes harm or disruption

  • Boundaries are repeatedly ignored

  • Misrepresentation occurs

Whenever possible, we aim for communication and resolution before removal. Community safety and integrity take priority.

13. Limitation of Liability

Confluence Community:

  • Is not responsible for disputes between members

  • Does not guarantee outcomes from participation

  • Is not liable for losses, damages, or missed opportunities

Participation is voluntary and at each member’s discretion.

14. Amendments

By joining, you agree to help protect and nurture this space.
